500. [Photo Album from Federated Malay States] Jendarata Rubber Co. Ltd Incorporated in Denmark. [our title]. 48 photos inserted two to a side in the photo mounts on 12 stiff album leaves. Photos generally 12 x 9cm. Photo quality varies -- many are sharp with very good detail while a few are not sharp and have fuzzy detail. Brief captions have been inked on the album leaves beneath each photo; a few captions are in English but most appear to be in Danish. Circa 1915. Covers present but detached from contents. Good. We titled the album from a photo of three white men sitting beneath our title on a sign. Several photos are of Europeans at work and play. There is a photo of a worker's hospital, workers gravestone, interior and exterior shots of factory work and workers, what looks like an irrigation ditch, a train, and rubber plants. There are also four loose photos, one of which is of the interior of a shed with a sign board stating "20 Tons Smoked Sheet, Packed Gjorup Bros. All Rubber Packing Sy..." [remainder of sign hidden behind large bundles]. Also laid is an undated [but circa 1921] 8-page pamphlet titled "Gjorup Bros., "All-Rubber Packing System" Teluk Anson Perak, F.M.S. The Common-Sense Packing System." 275.00

501. [Photo Album] Kashmir, 1930s or 1940s. [our title]. 70+ photos. One-third appear to be contemporary prints from the 30's or 40's (most 15cm. square, Two-thirds appear to be modern prints of old photos (10 x 11cm). 3 sets of duplicates. No captions. Paper remnants (partially covered with mounted photos) on some album leaves. Some photos loose in the album. Almost all prints, old and new, clear with good detail. Plastic comb-bound paper album, 31cm. Good. Sixty percent of the photos show Kashmiri scenes and mountain scenery. The rest of the photos feature the people of Kashmir, including women in saris, women with elegant beaded head dresses, and men in robes. 150.00

502. [Photo Album] Korean War Album Leaves. American Soldier, circa 1951. [our title]. 20 loose album leaves apparently removed from an album. Oblong 18cm. Over 160 photos in corner mounts. Photo size varies from 4 x 5cm. to about 7 x 10cm. Almost all photos appear to be amateur snapshots. A few have brief identifications in pencil on the back. All clear with good detail. Most are scenes of soldiers and army life including many photos which appear to have been taken on leave. About one-fourth of the photos include views of the countryside and of Koreans. Several photos of Korean women. No photos of combat or its immediate aftermath. 200.00

503. [Photo Album] Lumber Mill in the Philippines and Many Photos from Japan and America. [our title]. 59 photographs of the Philippines, 56 (and 15 postcards) of Japan, and 100+ photos of upper class life back in the United States. Philippine photos include 21 large format (generally 24 x 20cm.) commercial-quality and 35 smaller amateur shots (generally 13 x 8cm.). The Japanese photos are small format and many appear to be of the purchased commercial variety showing standard commercial sights and a few military figures or groups. The American photos are family-related, many taken outside a large home that appears to have had extensive grounds. No captions, other than one in pencil on the back of the first photo in the album which reads "Dex and Billi -- Bontoc woman, Bontoc, P. I. April 1936." Photos glued in (some just at the corners). General quality of the photos is good or better. Tied, oblong flexible leather album (33 x 26cm.). Undated but circa 1936 seems about right. The lumber mill is a large operation. One of the photos is of a lot of processed lumber with a sign which says: 700,000 feet Philippine hardwood being shipped to General Motors for use in Automobiles for the Philippine Islands." The album was probably compiled by or for one of the executives at the mill. There are three panoramic views of the mill and the inlet on which it was located which are stamped on the back: "Photo by Gerald Thompson, 408-409 Masonic Temple, Manila, P. I." 285.00

504. [Photo Album] Mary Taber Schell Hospital, Vellore India 1913. [title lettered on cover]. 14 photographs in a small hand-made album. Softcover. 24cm. Photos mounted two-to-a-page on four leaves. Brief inked captions (one or two words) under most photos. A few pencil notes beside some photos, appear to give directions to a printer (e.g.: "cut off 1/2 inch right side"). Hospital operated by Ida Scudder from the early 1900s until her death in 1960. The album contains: three photos of the hospital; three photos of young children standing on steps in front of the hospital's veranda; four photos of Vellore Fort; and, four photos of a Hindu temple at Vellore. 75.00

505. [Photo Album] Missions and Other Views in India and China Circa 1896. [our title]. 90+ photos. Twenty-five are approx. 28 x 21cm.; the rest are half that size or smaller. About 80 of the photos have been inserted at corners into thin strips of cut paper -- some of the thin strips have adhered to the photos -- and the remainder of the photos are laid in loose. There are captions beneath most (but not all) of the photos (many photos also have brief identifying captions on the back). Most photos are of very good quality although a few corners have chipped off and a few are faded. The album is good-sized (35 x 28cm.) but quite worn and many of the pages are detached. Despite the condition of the album, this is a high quality item compiled by someone who visited missions in these two countries. A printed broadside was laid in titled "To Miss A. B. Child, Secretary of the Women's Board of Missions Boston, U. States," (signed in type "We, the Female Members of the Dindigul Congregation," dated Feb. 10, 1896 and printed by Gnanaruthnagara Press in Dindigul) leads us to suspect that Miss Child might have been the compiler of this album. Unfortunately this album formerly was in the possession of another dealer who removed many of the photos from the album and was selling them individually. They sold the American photos of the Rocky Mountains and some of the Asian photos but the vast majority remain and have been reinserted in home-made corner mounts. Most of the largest photos are commercial albumen photos of standard tourist views in India (Benares, Lucknow, Agra, the Taj Mahal, and Delhi. The smaller photos are much more interesting, being a variety of mission school in India (Madura, Mandapasalai, and Pasumalai) and various locations in China (mainly in and around Foochow). 1200.00

506. [Photo Album] Mountain Trekking in Kashmir in 1936. [our title]. 38 photos, one to a page in corner mounts in a small oblong album (21 x 14cm). Photos approximately 11 x 7cm. Most (about 27) have brief captions printed in white on the black album leaves. Amateur photos of decent quality. Mountain scenery stars in these photos although a few people, tents and rope bridges also show up. 125.00

507. [Photo Album] My Trip Around the World: S.S. Samaria 1924 under the Direction of Thos. Cook and Son. [title on cover]. 253 professional photographs. Most are 12 x 9cm.; a few are 17 x 11cm. Almost all have numbered captions printed in white in the bottom of the image. Generally black & white; some are sepia-toned. Printed notice inside back Cover: All photographs copyrighted by "Branson de Cou, 213 William St., East Orange, N.J." Photos pasted on black album pages, often four to a page. Flexible leather covers. A couple of the album leaves have split and been taped together. De Cou was apparently a well-known travel photographer. The itinerary for this trip, judging solely by the photos, was New York (1); Madeira (5); Gibraltar (2); Algiers (4); Pompeii (1); Egypt (11); India (51); Sri Lanka (5); Neptune Day (4); Indonesia (19); Singapore (4); Philippine Islands (10); Hong Kong (15); China (55); Seoul (5); Japan (37); Shipboard (2); Hawaii (16); San Francisco (1); Panama Canal (3); Cuba (1); and disembarkation at end of trip (1). An appealing album containing photographs of tourist sites and interests; they do not appear to relate specifically to this trip. 300.00

508. [Photo Album] 1930s Snapshot Album of Malaysia around the City of Johore. [our title]. 43 photos. 5.5 x 5.5cm. Inserted in corner mounts. Decent detail for such small photos. Brief inked captions on glassine interleaving. Several blank leaves at end. Tied, blue paper-covered boards on neat but rather inexpensive album (25 x 18cm.). Covers scuffed but sound. Three of the photos are of the RNSQ which probably stands for Royal Navy Sick Quarters, suggesting that the compiler of this album may have worked there. The other photos are of various persons (usually identified by first name only), and buildings and scenes in and around Johore. 125.00

509. [Photo Album] Pakistan Army Winter Manoeuvres, 1956. Tied green cloth-covered album. Oblong 25cm. Printed in gilt on the album cover along with the title and crossed swords with crescent and star: "With the Compliments of General Mohammad Ayub Khan, C-in-C Pakistan Army". 24 professional quality photos. Roughly 14 x 18cm. Photos slightly rippled. Browning on about a half dozen photos. Photos clear with excellent detail. Almost half the photos show seated officers attending a lecture or meeting. According to signs on the wall behind the officers they came from Iran, Indonesia, Ceylon, USA, UK, Turkey, Thailand, and Pakistan. The other half of the photos show outdoor scenes of officers standing around (with some civilians) and soldiers in military poses. 175.00

510. [Photo Album] Northern and Other Areas of India and adjacent Countries. [our title]. Approximately 190 photos & a few non-photographic illustrations. More than half are of various scenes and persons in South Asia. Photos size varies; the five largest are approx. 28 x 20cm. Size of the rest varies from good-sized to small, trimmed snapshots. The photos are good quality; several appear to be commercial. Generally good detail; most are clear & unfaded. Photos mounted (pasted down) 1 to 9 on each side of relatively stiff off-white album leaves. Most have brief captions inked beneath the photo mounted (pasted) on moderately-stiff white album leaves. Undated but from the first decade of the 20th century. Good-sized (37 x 27cm.) oblong album. Appears to have been compiled by a cleric (or his family) of the Church of England. Photos arrangement haphazard with photos of England, Wales and other European locales cropping up here and there in the album, rather than segregated in one or more sections. The same is true of the photos of India, although there is some grouping of those. Locales in India that appear in the album include Panchgani (including a large photo titled "Panchgani Girls High School 1905" and taken by a photographer from Poona), Agra (several of the Taj), Muttra (several), Sirepur, Mathania, Darjeeling, Benares (including the five largest photos), Delhi, Narkatiagung, Narkauda, Simla, Mathiana, Sirapur, Gorakhpur, Poona (includes a photo captioned "The Church Poona Coronation of King George"), and a handful of Sri Lanka (Newara Eliya, Mount Pedro). We don't know whether the cleric served in India or merely traveled there, although it would seem odd to intersperse photos of a single trip with "home" photos. 750.00

511. [Photo Album] Philippine Views circa 1901. [our title]. Small oblong (24 x 16cm.) album containing 23 leaves with a photo mounted on both sides of every leaf. Photos pasted down. Captions in white ink beneath each photo; white lettering chipped or faded and a few captions are difficult to decipher. Several photos approximately 17 x 12cm.; the rest are smaller but still decent-sized. Some or all of the photos appear to be commercial photos of various scenes, including some from the "insurgency." There are no photos of any identified American soldier although this album was likely compiled by or for a soldier. The photos are striking but do not provide fine detail. Moderate fading. Good. Inscribed on the first album leaf: "With wishes for a pleasant season and happy years to Mrs. Abijah Chamberlain from Willard, San Francisco, Cala. Dec. 25, 1901." 41 of the photos are from the Philippines; there are four photos of Japan, a shipboard photo on the "Meade," and a damaged photo captioned "Camp U.S.A. Gen'l Hosp., Presidio and Golden Gate S.F.C.A." inside the back cover. 10 photos relate to the Insurgency. 650.00

512. [Photo Album] Photographs and Postcards of China in an Album which probably belonged to Dr. Lewis Hodous. [our title]. 80+ photos & ca. 30 postcards. Size & quality of photos varies. About 20 better quality photos are approximately 14 x 11cm. 12 photos of rice growing are approximately 10 x 7cm. The other photos are also within these two extremes in size. Photos and cards pasted down or tipped in on both sides of album leaves. One photo split with detached portion damaged but still present. No other photos or cards are loose and none have been removed. Most have brief captions beneath or beside in white ink. Small (18 x 15cm.) black album. "Lewis Hodous" written in white ink inside front cover (beneath which several other lines of writing have been removed). Hodous served for at least 16 years as a Protestant missionary in Foochow (now Fuzhou) which probably explains why many of the photos in this album are of that city and its surrounding area. There is little evidence of missionary content in these photos and Hodous does not appear in any of the photos. Quality of the photos varies -- some are quite nice while others are average quality commercial tourist photos. The postcards are also a mixed bag with several relating to Peking and four to Hong Kong. 450.00

513. [Photo Album] Photographs of the Philippines and a Few of Japan. [our title]. 80 photos; 70 are of the Philippines and the final 10 of Japan. Undated but very early 20th century. Includes 15 commercial colored photos (13 x 10cm.); five from the Philippines and 10 from Japan. The remaining 65 photos are smaller format black & white photos, mostly amateur and mostly about 9 x 9cm. (although several are larger). Quality of the photos is decent but there is a fair amount of fading and soiling on many of the photos. No captions other than the printed captions of a few of the colored photos. The photos are pasted down in a homemade album with tied paper covers. Overall condition is only Fair. Two Philippine photos are of the same image ("Hospital at Dagupan) but colored differently. There are 9 photos of scaffolding and executions and several others which appear to show American troops. Many of the other photos are of rural settings and buildings. 300.00

514. [Photo Album] RAF soldier near Padang (Sumatra) and in Thailand & Pakistan (Murree Hills). [our title]. 99 photos. Generally 10.5 x 8cm. Undated but circa 1962 (or earlier). Good quality amateur photos. Four photos are missing or removed. Photos are pasted down 3-4 to a page on both sides of relatively thin black album leaves. Album (31 x 24cm.). Cover slightly thicker black paper, tied with a later cord. Several album leaves detached. Several words inked in white on front cover -- just barely decipherable (we think) is "Rooping the Colour 1962" as well as the following words or phrases: Swans, Long, Trees, beasts, Hecht, Lonsdale, Indonesia, Siam, Murree Hills, Hawtreys, Rye, and Castle Carey. Fair-Good. Compiler not identified but probably British RAF. Padang photos are of soldiers, RAF messes, scenes (including a Japanese hangar at Palembang), and a photo of three young women. Thai photos are of Bangkok (several labeled canal, girls, temples, houseboats), and of dancers, women cutting grass, ruins, and the Buddha at Ayudhya. Murree Hills photos include several scenic views and two of parachute training. A detached album leaf at the end has six photos of elephants. 120.00

515. [Photo Album] Roundup & Capture of Elephants in the Mysore Region of India in 1939. [our title]. 38 photos. 27 measure 14 x 9cm. and are pasted down one to a page on both sides of album leaves; the other 11 photos measure 8 x 8cm. and are pasted down two to a page (except for one). Brief captions in white ink beneath photos (or pairs of photos). Very good detail. One photo has suffered some damage from adhesion. Oblong blue album (33 x 26cm.) which is quite worn along edges. Good. Inked title on first album leaf: " The Viceroy's Keddah [??] Mysore, January 1939. The first photo in the album captioned: "The herd being driven down the river past his Excellency." The photos are of the elephants and the Indians involved in their capture and taming; there are no photos of the Viceroy or other British officials. 400.00

516. [Photo Album] Roxas Village, Compiled for Cdr J. C. Speer, Labor Contract Administrator, Naval Supply Depot, Guam, M. I. 164 photos contained in three matching oblong 1/4 leather albums (tied with two leather strips). Photo size varies but a quarter of the photos are large (20 x 25cm. or so); the others are smaller -- the smallest are 8 x 8cm.). Photo quality is very good and quite clear, more technically proficient than artistic. No captions, other than some that say "Before" or "after." Undated but probably 1950s (our guess). Some corner scuffing and wear on albums. Appears to document reconstruction of this facility, with some before and after photos suggesting that the facility had been damaged by a typhoon or heavy wind storm. There are also photos of various sports teams, a quarantine area, a store, medical facilities, etc. 250.00

517. [Photo Album] Somewhere in Asia circa 1904. [our title]. 46 photos. 10.5 x 6cm. Inserted in photo windows, two to a page on both sides of 12 album leaves. Quality of photos varies; 30 are sharp and clear and the other 16 are browned and not as sharp and clear. No captions. Album is green 1/4 leather. 21cm. Cover extremities scuffed and frayed. Good. An intriguing mystery. A name (looks like C. R. W. Anderson) and November, 1904 written on front endpaper. There are several photos of ships, some Western, some looking like Arab dhows, and a couple of Chinese junks. There is a photo the first floor (exterior) of a Hongkong & Shanghai Banking Corp. edifice. Three photos show a group of men and women on horses with several hounds milling around with palm trees in the distance and two others are of a tent in the same locale (we think). A couple of other photos are of what appears to be a houseboat that has gone aground. 125.00

518. [Photo Album] Tientsin and Nanking, China, 1935-1937. [our title]. 70+ photos. Sizes range from about 5.5cm. square to 13 x 20cm., with the greatest number about 5.5 x 8cm. These appear to be mostly amateur snapshots with some commercial photos. White ink captions in the margins identify most photos. Some photos yellowed (in whole or in part); otherwise photos are clear with decent detail. About two dozen photos appear to have been removed from the album. A few unrelated photos are laid in at the end. Large cloth-covered tied album. Oblong 27cm. Appears to be the album of a young English businessman. There are quite a few photos of wharfs, warehouses, lighters, and ships. About 60 percent of the photos show scenes around Tientsin including 4 views of the 1937 Coronation celebrations and some scenes of a Shanghai v. Tientsin (English men's) field hockey game with group portraits of the teams. The other photos are of scenes in and around Nanking, including a garden or park captioned "Spirit Valley" and Sun Yet Sen's tomb. 150.00

519. [Photo Album] Trip to the Indian Sub-Continent in 1911 and a Trip to Italy in 1912. [our title]. 170 photos. Most approx. 8 x 10cm.; a few smaller. Quality varies; some appear to be standard commercial photos, others are nice quality amateur shots. Brief captions beneath about half of photos. Green album leaves with windows edged in white for four photos; a few windows empty (photo missing). Top edge of album leaves uneven (gnawed). Red album cover spotted and discolored along bottom portion. Good. Compiler not identified although three Italian photos of a handsome woman are identified as "self." 100 photos of her tour to India -- sailed on the Leicestershire; visited Madras, Poona, Bombay, karachi, Lahore, Amritzar, Delhi, Indrapat, Fatapur, Lucknow. Benares, Calcutta, Rangoon, and Ceylon (no specific location given). 29 photos of her trip to Italy -- visited Ravenna, Venice, Como, and Padua. Remaining photos are British (mostly uncaptioned) of family & friends, a tennis court, a downed plane, a bi-plane, a horse, etc. 250.00

520. [Photo Album] Twenty-Two Photographs from South Asia, ca. 1897. [our title]. Worn leather album. Oblong 24cm. Several leaves missing. Contains 22 professional quality photos: seven approx. 21 x 27cm.; two 19 x 25cm.; two 15 x 20cm.; six 10 x 15cm.; and five approx. 6 x 9cm. Brief ink or pencil captions below 8 photos. Scattered foxing. About one-third faded at edges but all are clear with good detail. We did not pin down the exact location of these photos, but they probably are scenes (with one Italian exception) from Bangladesh or northeastern India. The photos show: the Kawarkatty Jute Mill; a banyan tree at the Kawarkatty Jute Mill; snake charmers; jute flats; a sidewheeler; a view of Naples; 2 views of what appear to be the Himalayas; a group of Asian sellers of cashmere shawls, silk, and Afghan skins; a group of four Asian men; four photos of 1897 earthquake damage to commercial buildings with signs in English (including "Bentinck Street" and "Eastern Bengal State Branch Parcel Office"); a waist length portrait of a young Burmese Lady in formal dress; and, at the back of the album, 5 small photos showing a large building in ruins and two boats on a body of water. 400.00

521. [Photo Album] US Army Lt. Colonel's 1954-1955 Album while stationed near Sedai, Japan. [our title]. 240 photos. Almost all between 8 x 6cm.and 11 x 8cm. three to nine photos per page inserted in corner mounts. A few photos missing and a few (which may not relate to Japan) loose and not including in our count. Amateur photos. A few photos slightly blurry but most have good detail. No captions; only a few photos have anything written on the back. Good-sized cloth-covered album. Cloth frayed along edges. Good. More of these photos are of Lt. Colonel Tasker's family and friends than of military or tourist subjects. There are a couple of official US Army photos, with names of the officers on the back. One states that Tasker was president of the Sendai Rod and Gun Club. 200.00

522. [Photo Album] U.S. Signal Corps Soldier in Saipan, the Philippines and Guam, 1946-1950. [our title]. 350+ photos. Most approx. 6 x 11cm. 4-8 to a page in corner mounts. Photos generally sound and clear, with some browning or fading. Brief white ink captions under most photos or groups of photos. Contemp. oblong album. 34 x 26cm. Almost all photos are of military personnel, equipment & buildings. First 22 photos (June-July, 1946) show Camp Stoneman (Pittsburg, CA) and San Francisco. Next 57 photos (Nov. 1946-April 1947) of the Philippines, mainly in and around Manila. Next brief stop is Saipan (21 photos) before going to Guam in May 1947 (19 photos). He returns to Saipan in June, 1947 and is there through January 1950 (228 photos). On his way back to the States he stops in Guam (21 photos). He stops at Camp Stoneman (7 photos) and passes through Nevada (4 photos) on his way to a furlough in New Jersey (4 photos). He is back in Manila briefly in April 1950 (14 photos) before returning to Camp Stoneman in May 1950 (20 photos). There are then 16 shipboard photos en route to Kwajalein but no photos on Kwajalein. The final 61 photos are of military/civil defense activities in New Jersey (1952-1955). 375.00

523. [Photo Album] U.S. Soldier on Kyushu, Japan, 1954. [our title]. 150+ snapshots in corner mounts. Most 7 x 10cm. Amateur photos. Extensive white ink captions in margin on two-thirds of the photos. Photos clear with good detail. About 60 photos have been removed. Tied album with lacquered wooden covers (chipped in one place at edge). Picture of Mt. Fuji on front cover. Oblong 26cm. Probably the album of a U.S. serviceman stationed at or near Itazuke A.F.B. on the island of Kyushu. Most photos show views of Itazuke, the City of Fukuoka, and nearby Hakata Island. About two-thirds are photos of soldiers, mostly off duty. About 30 photos are of Japanese scenes and Japanese people. About 20 photos (some in color) appear to be from back home in the U.S. 125.00

524. [Photo Album] WAC in America and Japan in 1952 and 1953. [our title]. 150+ photos. Many are 11 x 8cm.; some smaller and a few larger. Photos inserted in corner mounts on both sides of album leaves. Several empty spaces where photos were removed (not by us). Inked captions in blank margins on many photos. Amateur photos with decent detail; a few have faded. Good-sized fabric covered album (27 x 33cm.). Some fraying at extremities. Our WAC (who identifies herself as "Me" in the photos) appears to have been at Camp Gordon and Fort Meade before heading for Japan where she appears to have spent time in Yokohama and Tokyo. More of a personal album than a record of her travels, most of the photos are of her family and friends, particularly a small group of her fellow WACs. She doesn't appear to have taken many photos of men. The album ends with some photos of other family members dated April 1953. 100.00

525. [Photo Album] World Conference of Teaching Profession , Seoul, Korea, 1966. [title on hand-made title page]. 52 photos on both sides of 23 black album leaves. Most photos 16 x 12cm. and mounted (glued at corners) on thin card mounting sheets from Choson Hotel Photo Service or Walker Hill Photo Shop. The other photos are smaller and, in most cases, inserted directly in corner mounts. Almost all photos have typed captions mounted beneath them; some of the captions seem intended to be mildly humorous. Oblong, black lacquer-style album. 39 x 26cm. Most photos have the appearance of being official photos of the event. Photos are of the site of the Conference, arrival of some of the delegates, and various scenes from the conference. A couple of photos at the end include Gladys M. McPheron, who appears to have been an American delegate and possibly the former owner of this album. Folded color poster for the conference laid in. 185.00

526. [Photo Album] World War I Era Photos from a British Soldier in British India. [our title]. 120+ photos. Photo size varies from 10 which are about 15 x 11cm. down to about 60 which are 8 x 6cm. 68 of the photos have been mounted (1 or 2 to a card) on 41 postcards. Only a handful of the photos (other than 11 of Agra) have any identifying captions. Condition varies but most have some browning or fading. The photos and postcards are displayed, two to a page, inserted in pocketed plastic album leaves contained in a modern oblong, vinyl-covered ring binder. Good (because of the browning and fading). While there are some shots of well-known tourist sites, most of the photos are of soldiers, encampments, and native scenes. One of the photos is of 11 young men and captioned, in part, in the photo as "D. of W's Rgt." Locales mentioned in the few captions are Khanspur, Cawnpor, Quetta, Ahmednagar; there are 11 rather nice photos of buildings (Fort, Pearl Mosque, Daulah's tomb, Fatehpur Sikri) at Agra. 250.00

527. [Photograph] Carte de Visite Photo of a Seated White Woman and a Young Indian Girl. Undated but circa 1880. Photo approx. 6 x 9cm. mounted on a stiff card. 528. [Photograph] Merchant Street Rangoon. [our title]. image (27 x 21cm.) mounted on thin card stock. Commercial photo. Photographer not identified. Foxing on card mount. Image sound and clean. Undated but probably circa 1880. Beyond is the spire of the Town Church (ch. of Eng.)." 85.00

529. [Photograph] Sailor from British Isles Photographed by Hong Kong Photographer. Carte-de-Visite photo. Undated but probably circa 1870-1880. Mounted on stiff card. Photographer (printed information of back) was Cheong-Heng & Wing-Chong, located at No. 66, Queen's Road, upstairs. The photo is a bit grubby but still a clear image of a seated young man with a goatee who is resting one arm on a small oval draped table. The man appears to be from Great Britain or Ireland and is wearing a sailor's blouse. 75.00

530. [Photographs] Fujiya Hotel. Ten commercial photos of the Fujiya Hotel Miyanoshita Spa. Postcard-sized (14 x 9cm.). Undated but probably late 1940s. Good detail although several are browned. Printed captions along the bottom portion of the image. 25.00

531. [Photographs] Nine Photographs from China from 1910-1920. Photos approx. 25 x 19cm. Professional. Photographer(s) not identified. Some images are a little unfocused toward the edges. Typed captions on the back of each photo. The photos appear to have been taken at various formal gatherings, several at or connected with the YMCA in China. 532. [Photographs] Southern Baptist Missionary at Yingtak (China). [our title]. 44 black & white photos. Most approximately 10.5 x 8cm.; some smaller. Undated but probably circa 1910. Curled (but can be flattened). Inked captions on the back of each photo; some captions are quite informative while others are brief and generalized. Good quality amateur photos with light to moderate fading. The photos appear to have been taken by a Mrs. Saunders or her husband (Rev. Saunders). The Saunders appear to have been Southern Baptist Missionaries in South China, teaching at a school (or academy) in Yingtak (Kwangtung Province). There are three photographs of good-sized architecturally-similar two story buildings identified, respectively, as the Girl's School, the home of Rev. & Mrs. Saunders, and the home of Rev. & Mrs. [Benjamin] Roach and Miss Harrison. Miss Harrison is identified on the back of another photo as being in charge of the girls' school, having come to Yingtak in 1897, and being supported by the "Sunbeams of Arkansas." There are several other missionary-related photos although a majority of the photos are of local scenes and agricultural pursuits. 300.00
